Far off the beaten track, Katavi National Park sits in a remote location and offers the perfect wildlife viewing. Katavi is famously known as the third-largest national park and the region is Africa at its most wild presenting authentic bush settings, magnificent vistas, and rich wilderness. This western circuit national park is home to a huge population of hippo and diverse birdlife. In the jungle towards the west you can able to hear the loud sound of elephants and buffaloes. Except these the park is also home to the rare roan and sable antelope species and it is a must-see for the visitors intending to explore the wilds of the continent. The true wilderness of seldom-visited Katavi provides a thrilling taste of Africa. The vast landscape of Katavi is home to substantial but elusive populations of the localized eland, sable and roan antelopes, an estimated 4,000 elephants roam on the area, together with several herds of 1,000-plus buffalo, zebras, impalas and reedbucks provide easy pickings for the many lion prides and while a number of giraffes, spotted hyena clans whose territories come together on the floodplains. Katavi’s most singular wildlife manifestation is presented by its hippos. Up to 200 individuals might flop together in any riverine pool to a sufficient depth towards the end of the dry season. Kutuma River, Lake Katavi and Lake Chada present an ideal game viewing opportunity and also heavens for countless water birds, and they also support Tanzania’s densest concentrations of hippos and crocodiles.

Over 400 species have been evidenced, and migratory birds are also seen from November to April. Particularly common are herons, spoonbills, plovers, and groups of stork including open-billed stork yellow-billed, saddle-billed and. Raptors are well represented, with the fish eagle, white-backed vulture and bateleur being very common.
