Overview

Covering an area of 52 sq km (20 sq miles), Gombe Stream National Park is located on the north-eastern shoreline of Lake Tanganyika near the border with Burundi. Despite small in size, the passionate chimpanzee lover Dr Jane Goodall studied the behaviour of chimpanzee and made it world-famous. The vegetation of the park goes through the rainforest, alpine bamboo to grasslands. Steep valleys, rivers and small streams envelop the stunning landscape of Gombe. The view of Gombe Stream National Park is very appalling; with the vast majority of the 16 noteworthy valleys flowing all the year. The rich rainforest makes a superb climbing condition, while lakeshore and clear water offer great shoreline activities. Visitors, who will do chimp trekking, will do through some challenging hikes. So its recommended that one should go through the discretion to weigh up the level of fitness before embarking on this trip. Although a small region, the park is an isolated, segregated biological system encompassed by distinct boundaries, Lake Tanganyika and the Rift Valley Escarpment.

Gombe is renowned for inhabitants of chimpanzees reside within the park. These incredible primates are accustomed to humans and can be seen on a walking safari through the woodlands. Other primates can be seen in the park include vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and olive baboons. Apart from these the park is also home to over 200 species of birds, amongst the most commonly seen are fish eagles, tropical boubous, palm nut vultures and trumpeter hornbills.
