Overview

Occupying some of 3200 square miles, Ngorongoro Conservation Area lies in the north of Tanzania. In 1979 it was officially declared a World UNESCO heritage site. The expanded area includes woodlands, lakes, swamps, grassland and thick mountain forests. By some of the archaeologist, this area is considered as the birthplace of mankind. The major archaeological sites Oldupai Gorge and Laetoli can be seen in Ngorongoro Conservation Area. And afterward, obviously there is the Ngorongoro Crater, the biggest solid, idle and unfilled caldera on the planet. With a distance across of roughly 19 km (12 miles) and its superb dividers that ascent a little more than 610 m (2000 feet), the crater floor covers a zone of 260 sq km (100 sq miles).

More than 30,000 creatures including the uncommon dark rhino consider this novel spot their home. Except these, you can able to see gnu (wildebeests), plains zebras, and Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles. Predatory animals include lions, spotted hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs. From more than 400 species of birds’ flamingos, superb starlings, silvery-cheeked hornbills, and bronze and tacazze sunbirds are prominent. Today more than 40,000 Masais live in the region making the Ngorongoro Conservation Area one of the main places in Tanzania where the human residence is permitted inside an untamed life ensured territory. Although cultivation is not permitted, Masai are allowed to graze their livestock. In 1951 the area was incorporated as part of Serengeti National Park, but in 1959 it was separately nominated as the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
